What is in store for the former Pizza Hut building?

Many updates and changes are in progress for existing Bellevue restaurants. Both the Taco Bell and Wendy’s on Hwy 70S are in the middle of major renovations. The Waffle House at Exit 196 is near completion of a total rebuild (that we first reported in February 2016). The Bellevue Shoney’s has closed for another remodel, and the Applebee’s on Hwy 100 has permanently closed.

In the late 90’s, the dine-in Pizza Hut was demolished to make way for the relocation of Walgreens. A new building was built next door.  The Pizza Hut carry-out & delivery (now the long standing home of Jersey Mike’s) was combined with the dine-in restaurant.  Earlier this year, the dine-in model was abandoned after 18 years at 7613 Hwy 70S.  Pizza Hut moved to the space formerly occupied by Quizno’s and features carry-out & delivery service only.

There has been much speculation and conversation over what will become of the former Pizza Hut building.  According to open permits, developers plan to “rehab and convert existing non-residential building to a Dairy Queen Restaurant”.  The Dairy Queen on Hwy 100 opened on Halloween, filling the roughly 5 year void of DQ being gone from Bellevue.  We are happy that it appears the building will not be vacant for long, but are we ready for another Dairy Queen?
